Verizon Wireless Stores Throughout South Carolina Are Collecting School Supplies To Help Ensure Kids Have Resources To Succeed

GREENVILLE, SC – July 27, 2011 – Starting Aug. 1, Upstate residents can drop off new school supplies at their local Verizon Wireless stores to give students back-to-school essentials for the new school year. The items collected will help local organizations serving underprivileged and low-income youth throughout the Upstate better prepare students to learn and excel in school. The nonprofit organizations receiving the supplies include: Big Brothers, Big Sisters (Anderson, Oconee and the Upstate); Communities In Schools of Greenville; and United Christian Ministries.
“No child should have to start the school year without the basic supplies and tools he or she needs to succeed in the classroom,” said Jerry Fountain, Verizon Wireless president for the Carolinas and Tennessee. “We take great pride in the community in which we live and work; and our employees are proud to spearhead this effort to assist community organizations that help every child feel excited and prepared to go back to school.”
Verizon Wireless is hosting school supply drives at stores throughout Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina through Aug. 15, 2011. Customers and employees are encouraged to donate #2 pencils, magic markers, colored pencils, plastic rulers, spiral notebooks, crayons, glue sticks, white glue, dry erase markers, pocket folders, construction paper, pencil bags, erasers, index cards, and children’s scissors.
