Avoid health calamity when traveling internationally

ANDERSON, SC – May 4, 2011 – AnMed Health Family Medicine Center is now offering special consultations for international travelers and missionaries.
According to the Office of Travel and Tourism Industries, 61.5 million Americans traveled abroad in 2009. American’s top five destinations included Mexico, Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Italy. During the same year, U.S. travelers set records for trips to Africa and the Middle East, as well as Greece, the Dominican Republic, Israel and India.
Whether you’re a frequent international traveler or taking the trip of a lifetime, it’s important to take steps to plan for healthy and safe travel. The AnMed Health Family Medicine Center’s travel appointments are offered from 1:30 to 5 p.m. every other Tuesday. During these times, travelers can meet with a physician to discuss their health, vaccine history, travel destination and activities. Travelers will learn which vaccines they’ll need and precautions to take.
Both the AnMed Health Family Medicine Center and the AnMed Health Pharmacy at the Oglesby Center offer several vaccines, including:
• Yellow Fever (state certified)
• Typhoid
• Japanese Encephalitis
• Hepatitis A and B
• Measles/Mumps/Rubella
• Meningitis
• Pneumococcal
• Polio
• Shingles
• Tetanus
• Varicella (chickenpox)
