City to Continue Bicycle Master Planning Process with Community Workshop

Broad-based public participation essential to development of successful plan
GREENVILLE, SC – The City of Greenville will host a community workshop on Tuesday, March 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Hughes Main Library to present preliminary recommendations for its Bicycle Master Plan.
The City launched the bicycle master planning process in November at a similar workshop, and by engaging the public there and through the Bicycle Master Plan Online Survey, received valuable public input and ideas, which have been incorporated into the preliminary recommendations. At the March 15 workshop, representatives from Alta Planning + Design, the firm hired by the City to develop the plan, will provide an overview of the draft bikeway network recommendations, detail the critical programs from the Bicycle Friendly Community Action Plan and outline the features of the design guidelines.
It is important that a wide variety of citizens participates in the planning process, and planners want to hear from the entire community, not just cycling enthusiasts. As a result, all interested citizens are invited and encouraged to attend the workshop. Citizens are also encouraged to visit http://www.bikevillebmp.org/, where they can complete the online survey, subscribe to the Bicycle Master Plan newsletter and learn about more ways to get involved.
