Thompson Receives ASIS Scholarship

SPARTANBURG, SC – December 14, 2010 – Shamilah Shadae Thompson received a $500 scholarship from the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) – Chapter 97 for outstanding grades and a desire to pursue a career in the criminal justice field.  The scholarship was presented by Dan Collins, a 2003 USC Upstate graduate who is the director of corporate security for Flour Corporation in Greenville and a member of ASIS.

Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina Upstate in December and plans to begin graduate school in September. While at USC Upstate, she maintained a 3.4 GPA, was named to the Dean’s List for the past two semesters and played on the basketball team.

ASIS International is the preeminent organization for security professionals. Founded in 1955, ASIS is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and productivity of security professionals by developing educational programs and materials that address broad security interests, such as the ASIS Annual Seminar and Exhibits, as well as specific security topics.
