Michelin North America and Habitat for Humanity Celebrate a New Beginning for a Deserving Family
November 8, 2010TAYLORS,SC – November 5, 2010 – On Friday, Habitat for Humanity of GreenvilleCounty and the Greenville County Redevelopment Authority (GCRA) joinedwith Michelin North America to welcome the Sims family to their newhome. Located in the brand-new Taylors subdivision, Abigail Springs,this second home for the development is part of a unique partnershipwith the GCRA in the redevelopment of this Greenville County sector.
Michelin and its employees have joined with Habitat Greenville to fullyconstruct and fund a fourth home within three years for anotherdeserving family. More than 280 Michelin employees volunteered morethan 2,400 hours in the last three months to make this possible.Participating in every part of the process, Michelin volunteers areexcited to give Mia Sims and her two small children a chance at abetter life.
“Respect for people is one of Michelin’s fundamental values,” statedWilliam A. Crank, Senior Community Relations Manager of Michelin, whowas on hand for the event. “A Habitat build allows us to demonstrateour values to the recipient families and to our employees, who aregiving of themselves to help others better their lives. We would liketo think that our actions speak for themselves and set an example forothers.”
Mr. Crank was joined by Martin Livingston, Executive Director of theGCRA, and Clarence Kegler, Vice President of Diversity at MichelinNorth America and member of the Habitat Greenville Board of Directors,as well as a number of volunteers without whom this new home wouldn’t have been possible.
“This marks the 8th home we’ve completed in 2010, and the 285th familyserved with homeownership in 25 years building homes in GreenvilleCounty,” stated Monroe Free, President of Habitat for Humanity ofGreenville County. “And, we couldn’t have been more thrilled than tocommemorate this special occasion with Michelin and its volunteers.Michelin has proven to us over the last three years to be a tremendouspartner for Habitat Greenville and the families they’ve touched withtheir graciousness and generosity. We hope to see this relationshipcontinue to grow in the future.”
