Comptroller releases FY 2009-10 Travel Report

COLUMBIA,SC – November 2, 2010 – State Comptroller Richard Eckstrom has releasedthe FY 2009-10 Travel Report for state agencies and state supportedcolleges and universities. The report is posted on the home page of theComptroller’s Web site, www.cg.sc.gov.

Eckstrom today issued the following statement:

“Taxpayers benefit when State government provides this kind ofspending information to the public.  Agencies ought to expect questionsfrom the public about their travel spending.  Could it be that someagencies curtailed travel realizing their spending information wasbeing reported to taxpayers and taxpayers might be asking questions? After all, State government trimmed travel by $2.5 million this pastyear. That’s a tangible benefit of greater spending transparency.”
