Andy Warhol Lecture Series Begins at USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, SC – The Andy Warhol Lecture Series begins at the University of South Carolina Upstate on Thursday, September 30 at 5:30 p.m. Dr. Catherine Zuromskis will deliver a public lecture entitled Andy Warhol: In the Vernacular in Room 101 of the Performing Arts Center. A reception will follow the lecture in the Harley Gallery.

This is the first in a four-part lecture series sponsored by the Curtis R. Harley Art Gallery that will accompany dual exhibitions of Andy Warhol’s photography and influence that are being presented by the Harley Art Gallery at USC Upstate (September 30 to October 29) and the Spartanburg Art Museum (September 14 to November 20) located in the Chapman Cultural Center on St. John Street in downtown Spartanburg. These events are free and open to the public.

Catherine Zuromskis is an assistant professor of art and art history at the University of New Mexico. She is a graduate of Harvard University in the History of Art and Architecture, and she hold an M.A. in Art History and Criticism from Stony Brook University and a Ph.D. in Visual and Cultural Studies from the University of Rochester. Her work on the history of photography, American art, and visual culture has appeared in Art Journal, American Quarterly, Criticism, The Velvet Light Trap, Photography and Culture, and the anthology Photography: Theoretical Snapshots (Routledge: 2009). She is currently completing a book titled The Social Life of Snapshot Photography.
