Waldrop Mechanical Services Completes Fast-Track Assignment at Clemson University, Major Upgrade of Equipment and Systems for Manning Hall Student Dormitory
August 25, 2010SPARTANBURG, SC – August 25, 2010 – Spartanburg-based Waldrop Mechanical Services has completed a major renovation project at the Manning Hall student dormitory on the campus of Clemson University in Clemson. Waldrop’s scope of work entailed a comprehensive mechanical upgrade of equipment and systems for the 10-story Manning Hall facility as well as modifications to the dormitory’s electrical, fire protection, insulation and building automation systems. The fast-track assignment was executed during the summer months when the student residents were away on summer break. Despite the challenges associated with an accelerated schedule, Waldrop delivered the project to the University’s housing department a week early.
“As if a project schedule of 92 days to complete the work was not challenging enough, our contract included a significant liquidated damages risk if we could not have the dormitory ready for residents moving in for the fall semester,” said Waldrop President Bill Caldwell. “Our preconstruction planning effort, coupled with our timely procurement of major equipment, materials and subcontracts, enabled our construction team to work efficiently. Ongoing communication and detailed coordination with the University, the design team, and all of the subcontractors and vendors was also critical to the successful outcome.”
