SC Farm Bureau Women donate to local charity
February 6, 2019The Ronald McDonald House in Columbia received more than $3,200 in food and donations from a fundraiser conducted by the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation (SCFB) Central District County Women’s Leadership Committee. Several members attended the annual Food Checkout event, including Frances Price, Chair of the SCFB Women’s Leadership Committee.

“It’s a blessing to visit the McLeod Guest House to see what a great cause our contributions go towards,” Price said. “This program shows how truly supportive the Farm Bureau women are of local charities and their dedication to helping those in need.”
The SCFB Women’s Leadership Committee organized members to collect food and money for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) across the state and the McLeod Guest House in Florence, SC. As a grassroots organization, Farm Bureau is committed to enhancing and strengthening the lives of rural Americans. Supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities and similar charities is a good fit because they help families maintain the strength needed to care for seriously ill or injured children undergoing medical treatment by providing them with a “home away from home.” And with specialized medical care not often available in rural areas, Farm Bureau members have often found Ronald McDonald Houses and the McLeod Guest House to be an invaluable resource.
Food Checkout is a year-round program that county and state Farm Bureaus use to provide information about today’s agriculture to consumers of all ages and backgrounds. This includes helping people connect with sources of clothing, food, shelter and energy in their communities. Activities range from outreach at supermarkets or farmers markets, to hosting interactive booths at community events, speaking with lawmakers and neighbors about food or visiting classrooms to help students understand agricultural topics.
