Cason Development Group bringing A Taste of the South to Sumter Street
January 4, 2019Cason Development Group is bringing A Taste of the South, literally, to Cottontown. Cason has leased 2222 Sumter St. in the historic neighborhood to the local, 30-year-old confections, treats and gift basket retailer.
A Taste of the South is moving from its Broad River Road location and hopes to open around Valentine’s Day, said President and CEO Elie Abikhaled. The new facility will include a retail outlet and packaging operation for its on-line business. The store will also offer a new line of gifts by local artists and craft persons.
“Cottontown is a great location and this will be an exciting opportunity for us,” Abikhaled said. “I was truly impressed with what Cason Development Group has done in attracting quality and unique local businesses and we are looking forward to joining the neighborhood.”
Cason purchased 2222 and 2238 Sumter Street, buildings that had been the home of the Dunn Electric Co., in 2015 and redeveloped 2238 Sumter St. to house Indah Coffee and Circa Barber Shop. The two businesses opened in May 2017.
Cason Development Group also is working to relocate Columbia Printing and Graphics to space that adjoins the Indah building, and Cason continues to explore other redevelopment opportunities in the Cottontown neighborhood.
The 4,000 square-foot 2222 Sumter St. had housed a maintenance facility for Loomis Armored US, part of the international cash handling company.
Cason recently completed the redevelopment of the former Dave’s Transmission property at 144, 2146 and 2150 Sumter Street for new offices for Cason Development Group, Seed Architecture, No BS Sales School, GrayFox Strategic and Citta del Cotone pizzeria, with space for another potential restaurant.
