Columbia Empowerment Zone, Inc. held Veranda hard hat tour preview
December 13, 2018On Wednesday, December 12, 2018, the Columbia Empowerment Zone, Inc. held a hard hat tour to view the new senior apartment building for persons 55 and older, Veranda at North Main. The Veranda at North Main is located next door to the North Main Plaza and across the street from Hyatt Park. Residents of the Veranda will have a Main Street address, access to medical care, Pharmaceutical needs, limited financial services, cell phone services and fast food at the North Main Plaza. Other available services include: access to front door public transportation, senior recreational activities at Hyatt Park, an in house exercise room, game room and community room and within walking distance are other eateries, small service type businesses and major medical services.
The Veranda is comprised of fifty-eight (58) apartments. Five of the units are ADA compliant and two of the units for sense-impaired (deaf and/or blind residents).
The needs of a senior aging in place were considered in the design of the Veranda at North Main, which are rich in amenities. The Veranda at North Main used resource efficient design and building materials, careful construction waste management and recycling, and energy efficient systems to lower the environmental impact of construction and to reduce the resource consumption by residents.Â

Unit Amenities:
- Units fully accessible
- Units have grab bars installed in the bathrooms
- The showers feature low-flow shower-heads with adjustable height
- Units have emergency call systems and be pre-wired for security
- Energy-Star refrigerators
- Dish-washers, in-sink disposals, ceiling fans, and washer/dryer hookups in every unit
- Stoves have front controls and powder based fire suppression canisters
