Webber Elementary Receives $13,000 Grant from International Paper

Congratulations to Webber Elementary School on receiving a $13,000 grant from International Paper to improve student reading and literacy skills. In addition to creating a mobile school library and providing free books for students’ home libraries, the grant funds will allow teachers and librarians to collaborate on ways to access and address each student’s individual literacy needs.

District’s Global Family Winter Clothing Drive Continues through December 14

Although Richland One students represent families speaking more than 70 different languages, kindness and generosity are actions we all can understand and appreciate. Richland One’s World Languages and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Program asks the community to donate new and gently used winter coats, sweaters, caps and gloves that will be given to international families in the district.

Many of the district’s international families come from countries with warm climates, which means they have little or no winter clothing. Items for men, women and children can be dropped off 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. through December 14 at the ESOL offices, which are located at 2612 Covenant Road (in the back section of the Adult Education building). The clothing will be provided to the 400-500 families expected to attend the program’s first Global Family Event on December 15. Community members who would like more information about the winter clothing drive should contact ESOL staff members Jonathan White or Xenia Nation at 212-1475.
