Important Information from Dominion Energy on the pending amendments to S. 954

March 28, 2018

The following is a letter written by Dominion Energy in response to pending amendments to S. 954.

Members of the South Carolina Senate
1100 Gervais Street
Columbia, SC 29201

Dear Members of the South Carolina Senate,

We have heard from many asking our opinion about the preliminary report by the economic consulting firm Bates and White regarding SCANA and SCE&G. This is a complex, 58-page document that weighs in on an issue of critical importance to South Carolina. We believe it difficult for us or anyone to do a full and considered analysis of this document and its long-term implications for the state in the short time since it was presented to the Senate. However, given the urgency with which some appear to want to act, we will do our best.

The report clearly reinforces the fact that Dominion Energy’s proposal remains the only permanent and sure solution presented to resolve the failed V.C. Summer nuclear project. Dominion Energy’s proposal remains the only one that does not bring risky, lengthy and expensive litigation that would damage the state’s reputation. And, it remains the only solution to promote future investments in reliability, grid security and cleaner energy.

Based on our review, here is a side-by-side comparison of the Bates and White scenario and the Dominion Energy proposal:

We think the choice is clear: a continuing controversy revolving around a weakened utility not able to invest to serve its customers, employees and the state; or a permanent solution that puts this situation to rest and brings a strong energy partner that can ensure lower rates, cash in the hands of customers, and investments in the future.

As always, I look forward to discussing this important matter with you.

Sincerely,
Dan Weekley
Vice President of Southern Operations, Dominion Energy
