Richland Northeast principal named Administrator of the Year

The South Carolina Association of Student Councils (SCASC) has named Richland Northeast High School Principal Dr. Sabrina Suber Administrator of the Year. Dr. Suber formally accepted the honor at the organization’s annual conference last weekend. Student government has been a centerpiece of student life at Richland Northeast for 36 years and it has grown and changed with the times,” according to Dr. Suber.

“Student council at my school has a rich history of engagement that builds leadership skills. Whether encouraging friends to run and support their mission, or negotiating with the principal to bring back powder puff football, student council members learn to negotiate and to build relationships,” said Suber. “They focus on year-round community service efforts and make it a part of everyday life.”

Student Body President Kamya Johnson says her principal leads by example. “She actively supports all of our programs on campus. She makes sure that our student leaders have the opportunity to thrive and ensures that our Student Government adequately represents and meets the needs of the diverse student body,” said Johnson.

SCASC also recognized student government leaders from Richland Northeast. Sophomore Kennedy Perry was elected District Four Chair. Senior Justin Castro was inducted into the Terry McCoy Leadership Hall of Fame. Richland Northeast Student Government was named a Gold Honor Council and won project awards in the categories of video project, school spirit, and recreational activities, signifying that these projects were among the best in the state this school year.

Earlier this month, Dr. Suber received another big award. She was named the Dr. Kay Phillips Administrator of the Year by the Southern Interscholastic Press Association for her support of the Cavplex – Convergence Media Magnet program at Richland Northeast.
