Palmetto Health offers free smoking cessation and tobacco education programs

Quit smoking for the New Year and improve your health and the health of those around you with the help of Palmetto Health free smoking cessation or tobacco education programs.
Palmetto Health, in conjunction with Philip Michels, Ph.D., and Gary Ewing, M.D., offers a free comprehensive, adult smoking cessation program to residents of Richland, Lexington, Fairfield and Sumter counties. Recent results from this program show 74 percent of smokers quit smoking by the end of the three-week program. Those who continued to smoke significantly reduced the number of cigarettes consumed each day.
The program includes:
- Free counseling and consultation
- Free one-month supply of medication to those who qualify
- Six sessions within three weeks
In addition to adult smoking cessation program, Palmetto Health also offers a free tobacco education program to residents of Richland, Lexington, Fairfield and Sumter counties. The program is designed to teach smokers about the health effects of tobacco use and the cost associated with using tobacco products. Classes meet every first and third Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., Palmetto Health Baptist, 1501 Sumter St., first floor. The next classes begin in January 2018.
