Devine elected to National Board of Directors

City Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine was elected to the Women in Municipal Government Board of Directors earlier this month. Women in Municipal Government, formed in 1974, is a constituency group of the National League of Cities (NLC). The group serves as a forum for communication and networking among women local elected officials and their colleagues within the NLC.

Devine, who was first elected to an at-large seat on City Council in 2002 and was re-elected in November for her 5th term. Devine currently serves as Mayor Pro Tem and leads the City’s efforts in a number of initiatives to include:

  • the Criminal Domestic Violence Task Force;
  • the Mayor’s Walk Against Domestic Violence;
  • Together We Can Read, an educational initiative that is celebrating its 10th anniversary with Richland County School District One and over the past decade has reached approximately 20,000 students through the help of more than 1,000 volunteers to read and discuss a South Carolina-based book;
  • the Ultimate Wellness Challenge, a 12-week comprehensive program to challenge citizens to take charge of their own health, embrace healthy lifestyles and make significant steps towards changing their lives for the better.

Devine is married to Jamie L. Devine and they are the parents of Tamia, Jade and Jameson. Their son, James Henry, was born into heaven in August 2014.
