Columbia Food Assistance Manager named DSS September Employee of the Month

October 4, 2017

The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SC DSS) recently established a program to recognize staff members who perform their jobs exceptionally well, go above and beyond what is expected of them, and in doing so, demonstrates our core principles of competence, courage, and compassion. Seandra Kelly, Specialized Food Assistance & Food Program Coordinator 1, Food & Nutrition Programs Division at State Office, Columbia, was one of four selected for September.

Kelly said she was surprised and feels “appreciated and honored to be selected an employee of the month.”

Next month marks 4 years that Kelly has been with the Agency. She began her career with DSS in 2013 with the Central Employment Referral and Compliance Unit/Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program (CERCU/SNAP) and was recommended for the position she currently holds. She also serves as a member of the South Carolina Emergency Management Division and as SC State Director for the National Commodity Supplemental Food Program Association

When asked to describe what she does, Kelly said: “I manage all aspects of 3 federally funded programs for the state in partnership with USDA: The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP,) the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), and the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP).

Her nomination states Kelly was “chosen by management for her passion and enthusiasm, her innovative ideas that enhance her program, and for forging successful relationships with fellow staff and partnering organizations.”

A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Kelly still resides in Columbia.

Staff selected for the Employee of the Month Program are awarded with lunch with the State Director along with other honorees, a dedicated parking space, a photo and write up displayed at State Office, and a write-up sent to their community newspaper.

Other September winners were Cindy McIntee, Regional Attorney for the Lowcountry, Charles Reese, Information Technology and Amanda Hull, Foster Care in Charleston County.
