New Charles Schwab branch in Columbia invites investors to take ownership of their future

October 4, 2017

Charles Schwab, one of the largest full-service investment services firms in the country and ranked “Highest in Investor Satisfaction with Full Service Brokerage Firms, Two Years In a Row” in the 2016 and 2017 J.D. Power Full Service Investor Satisfaction Study, recently opened the doors to a new independent branch just outside of Columbia, S.C., that offers investors local access to a range of investing, wealth management and personal finance guidance, tools and products.

The new branch, located at 952 Lake Murray Blvd. in Irmo, is part of a larger franchising initiative Schwab announced in early 2011. Schwab’s decision to begin opening franchise branches, in addition to its more than 300 existing company-managed branches, is grounded in a commitment to make financial advice and guidance more accessible in local communities across the country. Schwab’s company-managed and independent branches deliver the same suite of brokerage products and services, pricing, and overall client service and experience.

The branch is led by Schwab Independent Branch Leader John Brazell, a financial services professional with 21 years of experience in the financial industry.  Prior to joining Schwab’s independent branch network, Brazell was a branch manager at Scottrade.  Previously, Brazell served in financial consultant and branch manager positions at the Schwab branches in Charlotte, N.C., and Lexington, Ky.

“Through my conversations with clients, I’ve seen first-hand how important it is for people to have local access to actionable investing help and guidance that makes sense for their specific financial goals,” said Brazell. “Since its founding, Schwab has been an advocate for the individual investor, and I’m proud to be the face of Schwab in Columbia and surrounding communities.”

Brazell attended Winthrop University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology.  He and his wife Carole live in Columbia with their two sons. Outside of the office, Brazell enjoys golf, spending time on the lake, gardening, and attending local high school and college athletic games.

Brazell expects to hold a variety of educational investing workshops in the Columbia branch, which are complimentary and open to Schwab clients as well as the general public.
