Citadel Board of Visitors now led by Columbia businessman Fred L. Price Jr., ’75

Other new members join college’s board as 2017 – 18 academic year is set to begin
The Citadel Board of Visitors (BOV) is now being led by Col. Fred L. Price Jr., UMSC (Unorganized Militia of South Carolina), a member of The Class of 1975, and president of Ace Glass Company, Inc., which is headquartered in Columbia. Price began his tenure as chair of the BOV in July, taking over for outgoing chair, Lt. Gen. John Sams, Jr., USAF (Ret.) whose term recently ended.
“Working with Lt. Gen. John Sams was an honor and a pleasure,” said Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa. “Fred Price takes over with decades of experience as a strong business and community leader, and as a driven supporter of The Citadel. We are fortunate to have him at the head of our distinguished Board of Visitors.”
Price was first elected to the 14-member BOV by The Citadel Alumni Association (CAA) for a term from 2007 to 2013. The South Carolina General Assembly then elected him to continue serving in this current term that began in 2014 and will last through 2020. He has held numerous other BOV leadership positions including board vice chair, as well as chairing various committees.
“I am honored to serve The Citadel as chair of the Board of Visitors,” said Price. “I could not be more proud of the difference our college makes in the lives of young people and in the contributions those new leaders go forward to make as military officers, business professionals, and in many other realms of society in South Carolina and across America.”
Price has a notable history of business accomplishments and community leadership. He is president of the company started more than 50 years ago by his father, with his son and daughter representing the third generation of the family involved in the growing Ace Glass Company enterprise. He is also chief executive officer of the Blyco Glass Company in Columbia. Some of Price’s community service work has included serving as chair for the boards of the South Carolina Better Business Bureau, Hammond School, and the Carolina Children’s Home, as well as board member positions for Baptist Hospital Foundation and Palmetto Health Alliance.
Price is a highly engaged supporter of The Citadel and The Citadel Foundation and has been since graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He is past president of the CAA, The Citadel Brigadier Foundation and the Columbia area Citadel Club, a former district director for the Association of Citadel Men and a 2006 Palmetto Medal Award recipient.
Other BOV changes include Col. Myron Harrington, USMC (Ret.), serving as vice chair. Harrington, whose tenure on the board began in 2015, is serving his second term. Additionally there are two new members who have joined, Col. John “JC” Dominick, USAF (Ret.), who graduated from The Citadel in 1971 with an electrical engineering degree, and Col. James “Jim” Harrison, USA (Ret.), who graduated in 1973 with a degree in political science and in 1976 from the University of South Carolina School of Law. Harrison served in the South Carolina House of Representatives from 1989 to 2012 and as assistant attorney general for South Carolina from 1978 to 1989. Harrison was elected to the BOV by the general assembly, and Dominick was elected by the CAA. Both will serve six year terms through June 30, 2023.
