NEW Shadows From Space Planetarium Show Debuts Today

Experience the total solar eclipse early in this new planetarium show debuting today. See what causes this magnificent celestial display, which millions across the US will enjoy on Aug 21, 2017. Learn about the significance of total solar eclipses and what motivates people to travel great distances to spend just a handful of minutes in a shadow cast from space. Visit scmuseum.org for a list of showtimes or to purchase tickets.

 

Solar Science Saturdays, Aug. 5

Solar Science Saturdays, presented by SCE&G will run each Saturday in August, starting this Saturday, August 5 and ending Saturday, August 26. Each Saturday will be exploding with solar eclipse activities including hovercraft rides in the planetarium lobby, launching rockets and more. Explore the life of SC Native and Apollo 16 Astronaut Charles Duke in a new Exhibit Opening, Sat., Aug. 5

South Carolina native and Apollo 16 astronaut Charles Duke will be the focus of the new exhibit: South Carolina’s First Astronaut Charles Duke and the Apollo Missions opening this Saturday. Guests will learn about Duke’s life from growing up in Lancaster, SC, to joining the Naval Academy, becoming a space pilot and later becoming the 10th, and youngest person to walk on the moon. The exhibit will showcase artifacts from Duke’s time as an astronaut, including items he wore and used during his mission to the moon. $1 General Admission During First Citizen’s First Sunday, Aug. 6

General admission to the South Carolina State Museum is only $1 for guests on First Citizens First Sunday. Included in general admission, guests can explore four floors of permanent and changing exhibits. Blockbuster exhibit admission, BlueCross Blue Shield of South Carolina Planetarium and Rev.
