Richland County seeks public input about housing and development plan

Richland County is seeking public input about its recently drafted plan to address housing and development issues in neighborhoods across the County.
The Office of Community Development organized nine public meetings in May as well as an online survey to gather information about the housing, development and infrastructure concerns that matter most to residents. Staff used that information to draft a Five Year Consolidated Plan that identifies residents’ top concerns in regard to housing and development and lays out initiatives to address those concerns.
Priority needs identified by residents include rehabilitating existing affordable housing units, reviving abandoned or dilapidated properties, homeownership assistance resources and infrastructure projects.
Residents are encouraged to read through the proposed Five Year Consolidated Plan, which is available at www.rcgov.us, and provide additional comments through July 31. A public hearing about the plan is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 31 at the 4th Floor Conference Room of the County Administration Building, 2020 Hampton St., Columbia.
The Five Year Consolidated Plan is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in order for Richland County to receive federal funding for housing and development projects.
