S.C. Military Base Task Force approves strategic plan

July 19, 2017

Wednesday, July 19, 2017, the South Carolina Military Base Task Force (Task Force) approved the state’s first ever strategic plan recognizing the importance of the role that the military plays in our state’s well-being. The strategic plan is a complement to the 2017 Economic Impact Study that the Task Force released in April of this year.

Accompanying the strategic plan is an introductory letter from Governor Henry McMaster in which he referred to the strategic plan by its title: “South Carolina Military Base Task Force: Enhancing South Carolina’s Military Value” and recognized that it “sets forth the Task Force’s goals for our state and the action it recommends to achieve them. I wholeheartedly support this strategic plan and will work closely with the Task Force and the General Assembly to ensure its implementation.”

The mission of the Task Force is to build and maintain strong relationships between federal, state and local governments and the state’s military community. It is tasked to identify issues and challenges facing the state’s military installations, communities, personnel and their families.

Bill Bethea, Chairman of the Task Force, stated, “The Task Force is charged with the responsibility to provide recommendations to the Governor and the General Assembly of measures the state should implement to ensure that the state does its part to maintain our military resources in a manner that will allow them to succeed in their mission of defending our nation. We believe this strategic plan will help us accomplish that.
