USC to hold its annual community yard sale for charity

May 18, 2017

The University of South Carolina will hold its annual Give It Up For Good community yard sale from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 20 at 1220 Catawba St. (Catawba and Sumter streets). Faculty, staff and students will get a preview from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 19.

The sale is a win for students who no longer have need for items, for Midlands residents who like a bargain and Habitat for Humanity, which benefits from the proceeds. Items include small refrigerators, microwaves, futons, lamps and clothing. Some of the quirky items shoppers will see on Saturday are a longboard, holiday decorations and stuffed animals.

The 2016 sale raised more than $12,000. Since the first sale in 2012, the university has raised $51,347 and funded three Habitat for Humanity home rehabs. In 2016, 38,300 pounds of items were donated — up from 29,231 in 2012.
