CSE expands coastal expertise – announces new staff

Coastal Science and Engineering (CSE) announces the addition of Patrick Barrineau as Project Manager and Ruben Visser, Graduate Engineering Intern, to its professional staff. CSE is a specialty consulting engineering firm that provides beach restoration and design solutions in the coastal zone of South Carolina, North Carolina, other states and countries. Currently, CSE is constructing or planning beach restoration projects in Edisto Beach, Hunting Island, Isle of Palms, and Pawleys Island.

Barrineau will be project manager for CSE projects at Pawleys Island and elsewhere in the Grand Strand. He will also provide expertise for the company’s beach nourishment designs. Barrineau is a specialist in coastal processes and geomorphology, with research experience along the South Carolina and Texas coasts. He is expert in the areas of beach-dune interaction and barrier island evolution. A native of Columbia, Barrineau earned his PhD in Geography from Texas A&M University, an MS in Geography/Coastal Processes from the University of South Carolina, and a BS from Auburn University. Visser is a masters candidate in coastal engineering at the Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in The Netherlands. For his internship year, he will work with CSE scientists and engineers on projects involving the evolution and equilibration of beach nourishment projects. Visser will study CSE methodology for beach nourishment design and will introduce CSE staff to state of the art engineering models developed at TU Delft. TU Delft is the largest and oldest technical university in The Netherlands. It is renowned for its pioneering work in coastal engineering and shore protection.
