Lexington County Sheriff’s Department announces promotions and transfers

Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon recently promoted eleven deputies and transferred three deputies.

Adam Bryant, 36, has been promoted to school resource officer at  Nursery Road Elementary School. Bryant, a resident of Cayce, previously served as a deputy in the department’s north region, which is based near Irmo. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in October 2014.

David Burns, 58, has been transferred to code enforcement officer. Burns, a resident of Little Mountain, previously served as a school resource officer. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in March 2015.

Meghan Dabkowski, 30, has been promoted to investigator. Dabkowski, a resident of Columbia, previously served as a deputy in the department’s west region, which is based near Gilbert. She was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in February 2014.

Jonathan Grooms, 42, has been transferred to victim’s assistance officer. Grooms, a resident of Columbia, previously served as an investigator. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in April 2007.

Brian Hinz, 36, has been promoted to master deputy in the K9 unit.  Hinz, a resident of Lexington, previously served as a senior deputy. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in August 2001.

Kaaren Miller, 32, has been promoted to criminal investigator. Miller, a resident of Batesburg, previously served as a deputy in the department’s north region, which is based near Irmo. She was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in August 2015.

Alex Mountzouros, 29, has been transferred to investigator. Mountzouros, a resident of Lexington, previously served as a criminal investigator. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in May 2011.

Chet Peterson, 27, has been promoted to school resource officer at Sandhills Middle School. Peterson, a resident of Lexington, previously served as a deputy in the department’s south region, which is based near Pelion. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in September 2016.

Luis Rivera, 49, has been promoted to lieutenant in the department’s west region, which is based near Gilbert. Rivera, a resident of West Columbia, previously served as a patrol sergeant in the department’s south region. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in August 2002.

Daniel Schirra, 28, has been promoted to criminal investigator. Schirra, a resident of Lexington, previously served as a deputy in the department’s south region, which is based near Pelion. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in March 2015.

Keith Sprinkle, 30, has been promoted to road patrol sergeant in the department’s west region, which is based near Gilbert. Sprinkle, a resident of West Columbia, previously served as a crime scene investigator. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in September 2010.

Lance Thomas, 39, has been promoted to resident deputy in Red Bank. Thomas, a resident of Bamberg, previously served as deputy in the department’s west region, which is based near Gilbert. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in May 2015.

Matthew Vincent, 29, has been promoted to school resource officer at Chapin Elementary School. Vincent, a resident of Lexington, previously served as a patrol deputy in Chapin. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in June 2014.

Teddy Xanthakis, 54, has been promoted to sergeant in court security. Xanthakis, a resident of Columbia, previously served as a master deputy in the K9 unit. He was appointed to serve as a deputy sheriff in August 2006.
