3 Tips For Giving Your New Year A Productive Start
January 3, 2017By Brian Maynor
Happy New Year!!!
Scroll through your social media or news feed and it won’t take long to see that everyone is happy 2016 is over. It was a rough year, making this week all the more exciting.
If you’re a numerology fan you’ll know 2017 a “1” year, all the numbers add up to 1, which is not only a great year of manifestation, it is also the first year of a nine-year cycle. Whether you’re superstitious or not, you can’t deny this is a great time to not only set goals for the future, but to release anything from the past that is holding you back.
Here are three easy tips guaranteed to help you kick off the New Year more focused and grounded, which will also turn into great habits for the year ahead:
1. Leave your phone on the charger. When you wake up in the morning, resist the urge to dive straight into your email, social media or newsfeed. Instead start your day with a mindfulness practice. Take a few deep breaths, make a mental note of all the things you’re thankful for and set a few goals for the day. This 5-10 minute morning meditation will have serious ramifications throughout your day.
2. Reschedule your day. Everyone’s natural rhythms are different, so it’s time to start paying attention to yours. The general cycle is that we think best at the beginning of the day, making mornings the ideal time for complex problem solving, and wane towards the afternoon, but the peaks and valleys of this cycle will vary. Instead of trying to power through your day with caffeine or shear determination; arrange your day so that your tasks align with your natural schedule. It may seem simple, but it’s one way to help make your days more productive and less stressful.
3. Get organized. My husband has just about every app he’s ever downloaded cluttering up his phone. It’s page after page of unorganized, often unused apps, he has to scroll through every time he unlocks his phone. Make it a point this week to delete apps you never use, create folders to organize them however your mind works best, and turn off any unnecessary notifications. You may need to break it up over a few days, but having only a few of your essential apps on your home screen and the rest in folders has the same impact on your mind as a clean office or desk.
The start of a new year is always exciting, but this one is particularly special. Not to add any pressure to your week, but since this is the first week of the first month of the first year of a nine-year cycle everything we do this week will have a ripple effect for the next nine years. Take deliberate action to create the year and decade you want.
