Golfbreaks.com chooses Charleston County for first U.S. operations

November 4, 2016

Golfbreaks.com, a specialty golf travel company and participant in the state’s new Landing Pad program, is establishing its first U.S. operations in Charleston County.

Established in 1998 and headquartered in the United Kingdom, Golfbreaks.com organizes golf travel vacations for approximately 220,000 golfers annually. With a workforce of more than 150 at its Windsor, U.K. headquarters facility, the company anticipates tremendous growth potential for its new location in the Charleston region.

With an initial focus on golf vacations to the UK and Ireland, the North American arm of Golfbreaks.com will soon be expanding its offerings outside of the British Isles. To do so, the company will be adding destinations, such as Mexico and the Dominican Republic by January 2017 and domestic North American destinations later in 2017.

“There are 30 million golfers in North America compared with four million in the U.K., and if we can capture the same five percent market share as we have in the U.K., we will be sending 1.5 million North American golfers on golf vacations annually at some point. This, in turn, will provide career opportunities for literally hundreds of Charleston area residents. The opportunity is hugely exciting, and we are thrilled to have chosen the Lowcountry for our North American headquarters,” said Golfbreaks.com USA CEO and Co-Founder Daniel Grave.

Golfbreaks.com has already hired five employees to manage its new North American operations, which are headquartered at 1156 Bowman Road in Mount Pleasant, S.C. Future growth is expected as the company continues to expand its offerings further into the North American market. Hiring for new positions will be ongoing, and interested applicants should contact the company directly at [email protected].

To properly navigate the economic development process in South Carolina, Golfbreaks.com has participated in the state’s Landing Pad program, which aims to assist established companies looking to enter the U.S. or South Carolina markets for the first time. A collaborative effort between the S.C. Department of Commerce and the state’s regional economic development alliances, the program assists companies with a variety of issues and services, including regulation, taxation and translation, as well as finding suitable office space.
