Dominion Foundation donates $5,000 to Sesqui State Park Spillway Project

August 17, 2016

The Dominion Foundation is donating $5,000 to Sesquicentennial State Park to help cleanup and beautify the park’s historic stone spillway, a channel built by the Civilian Conservation Corps more than 75 years ago.

“We are very grateful to have Dominion’s support at Sesquicentennial,” said Duane Parrish, Director of the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism. “Sesqui is one of our oldest state parks and it’s important for us to preserve examples of that legacy.”  Debris and damage occurred at the spillway in October 2015 when record rainfall caused erosion and uprooted trees.

”The Dominion Foundation is proud to support South Carolina State Parks,” said Keith Windle, General Manager for Dominion Carolina Gas Transmission. “The historic floods in 2015 impacted our communities and Dominion is proud to help continue supporting local recovery efforts.”

Sesquicentennial is in northeast Columbia and receives more than 250,000 annual visits. The park is popular for picnicking, camping and hiking, and recently added a splash pad to attract more families with small children. The park is also popular with mountain bike riders.
