Lexington High School teacher receives award

LEXINGTON, SC – Lexington County School District One congratulates Lexington High School AP Statistics and International Baccalaureate Mathematics Teacher Sheryn Billue, who received a National Center for Women and Information Technology 2016 Aspirations in Computing Educator Award.

Billue received a $250 cash award and will receive reimbursement for as much as $750 in expenses that she incurs while participating in professional development activities related to computing. NCWIT recognized Billue for her commitment to encourage young women to aspire to achieve success in computing.

NCWIT strives to increase the number of women who pursue careers that involve computing. The organization recognizes that Billue and other great teachers are one of the most important factors in inspiring young women to engage with technology in meaningful ways and pursue technical careers that involve computing.

Using innovative techniques to reach all students, Billue believes in providing her students with the very best educational experience each and every time that they enter her classroom. Her calm demeanor and high expectations for students are a combination that works. Through thought-provoking rigorous activities and real-world projects, Billue challenges students to work hard, excel and reach their goals.

Billue was named Lexington One District Teacher of the Year 2015–2016 and was a finalist for South Carolina State Teacher of the Year. She is certified in mathematics and advanced placement, and endorsed in gifted and talented. Billue has also earned certified quality engineer and certified quality technician certifications from the American Society for Quality Certification Board.
