The Columbia Museum of Art announces the 2016 Gala, In the Mix: From Vintage to Vogue, to be held on Saturday, March 5, from 7:00 p.m. to midnight. The museum’s largest fundraiser of the year will celebrate the major spring exhibition, REMIX: Themes and Variations in African-American Art, in an evening filled with extraordinary cuisine, décor, and entertainment.

Tickets to the black-tie affair are available for $150 ($75 tax deductible). The Gala raises critical funds to support the museum’s mission to provide outstanding art and arts education for lifelong learning and community enrichment.

“The Gala is a fantastic way to experience the museum. You get to have fun, enjoy incredible food and drinks, and dance to a band downstairs and a DJ upstairs. Plus, the galleries are open so you can see this amazing exhibition,” says 2016 Gala Chair Julie Brenan, who is also a member of the board of trustees.

Guests will enjoy entertainment by Reggie Sullivan and His Music Machine, DJ Irv, and Life in Notes and Steps, original jazz and dance by Mark Rapp and Stephanie Wilkins. The galleries will be open for guests to enjoy the groundbreaking REMIX exhibition, which features 40 African-American artists and a variety of works dating from the early 20th century to today.

March 5 and welcome everyone to the best party in town.”

Each year, a team of more than 50 volunteers works for several months to create an elegant event and transform the entire museum to fit the theme of the spring exhibition. This year’s REMIX exhibition features bold and brilliant colors and figures interlaced with historical references and contemporary features. The Gala will have guests reimagine the past and view things through a different lens, as traditional cuisine and décor are “remixed” to create something new, and vintage elements are fused with the vogue.
