COLUMBIA, SC – Watson Tate Savory (WTS) announces that J. Sanders Tate, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, was recently appointed to the South Carolina Board of Architectural Examiners by Governor Nikki Haley.

“I appreciate the opportunity to assist in the regulation of the practice of architecture in our state and look forward to these next several years of service,” said Tate.

As a registered, practicing architect in South Carolina for more than 25 years, Sanders Tate is well suited to the position. He founded Lambert-Tate Architecture in 1989 with his late partner Bruce Lambert. Sanders started Watson Tate Architects with Michael Watson in 1991, which evolved into Watson Tate Savory Architects in 1996 with the addition of Tom Savory as Principal.

Sanders has been the project architect for several notable projects across South Carolina, including the University of South Carolina’s Horizon I Research Building, the Florence County Museum and the Francis Marion University Health Sciences Complex, currently under construction.

Sanders has also maintained an interest in interior architecture and has significantly contributed to Watson Tate Savory’s many award-winning interior renovation projects. Sanders is a member of the South Carolina chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He is also a member and past president of the Columbia Film Society and past member of the City of Columbia Planning Commission. Sanders has also served as a guest juror and studio critic at Clemson University, his alma mater.
