Pineapple Green Smoothie
March 5, 2015By Kay MacInnis
March is National Nutrition Month, so all month we’re going to be highlighting recipes for healthy shakes and smoothies you can make to improve your diet – and your health.
Providence Hospitals has also unveiled a fun new music video, starring the multitalented staff at our two hospitals, that will drive home the message. That’s me on the blender, 33 seconds in. View the video at http://youtu.be/Laa0RyxE1oA. Feel free to dance along.
Once you’ve seen that and are suitably inspired, get out the blender and whip up this great shake recipe:
Pineapple Green Smoothie
1/2 cup almond milk
1/3 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
1 cup baby spinach
1 cup frozen banana slices (about 1 medium banana)
½ cup frozen pineapple chunks
1 tablespoon chia seeds
Preparation: Add almond milk and yogurt to a blender, then add spinach, banana, pineapple, chia and sweetener (if using); blend until smooth.

This is another in a weekly series of healthy recipes from Kay MacInnis, registered dietitian at Providence Hospitals in Columbia.
Kay works in Health and Wellness at Providence, helping cardiac and diabetes patients eat their way to healthier lives. She’s not a chef herself, but in consultation with the actual chefs at Providence, she’s learned a lot over the years as she has worked to help patients help themselves after they leave the hospital.
She also conducts a number of health and wellness events for the public, including the monthly Providence Cooks! classes.
