Council for Advancement and Support of Education: Names Midlands Technical College’s White Top CEO in the Southeast

COLUMBIA, SC – The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District III named Midlands Technical College president Dr. Marshall White, Jr. as the recipient of its Chief Executive Leadership Award last weekend in Orlando. White is the first president from a two-year college to receive the award in its 16-year history. Recent recipients have been presidents from the University of Georgia, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Wake Forest and Tulane. Established in 1999, this prestigious award recognizes a president from a Southeastern college for outstanding leadership and service in support of education.
“In the years I have worked with Dr. White, he has moved this institution forward decades in the broadest sense of institutional advancement,” said Tim Nelson, CEO of the Midlands Technical College Foundation. “Dr. White made a tremendous investment in the college’s advancement structure. He elevated the college by supporting a robust advancement program with a major gifts program, donor relations, planned giving, alumni affairs, prospect research and more.”
White is a strong advocate for entrepreneurship and workforce training and has been a key figure in three important regional developments – creating a resurgence of advanced manufacturing, promoting South Carolina’s nuclear renaissance and leading significant efforts to bring together business, community and educational partners.
“What distinguishes Dr. White is his ability to create and implement partnerships,” said Nelson. “He has led the college into activities for unemployed and underemployed adults in the college’s service area through local councils, neighborhood associations and churches. He has a big-picture view of all of the elements it takes to create partnerships. He does what’s right for our region.”
