Applications Available Now for 2015 SC Commissioner’s School for Agriculture
February 18, 2015COLUMBIA, SC – Rising high school juniors and seniors can now apply for this year’s South Carolina Commissioner’s School for Agriculture (SCCSA), held at Clemson University, July 18-24, 2015.
SCCSA is a premier summer academic program coordinated by the South Carolina Department of Agriculture and Clemson University’s College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences. It exposes students to academic offerings and potential careers in agriculture and natural resources through workshops, discussions, and laboratories.
Students learn about greenhouse production, soil science, athletic turf-grass management, animal and veterinary sciences, packaging science, aquaculture, forestry, wildlife, and natural resources. The school also includes trips to Clemson University Research Farms, the Clemson Experimental Forest, and a whitewater rafting trip down the Chattooga River.
Since its inaugural year in 2004, SCCSA has graduated 381 students from the program. A number of those students have pursed agriculture related majors and careers.
