Richland County Council makes a R2 Connection

COLUMBIA, SC – Richland County Councilwoman Julie-Ann Dixon partnered with Richland School District Two to host the fourth annual R2 Connection Dinner this evening at the Richland School District Two Conference Center.

During dinner, more than 150 Richland Two families had the opportunity to engage with over 40 local government and community health and human service agencies. The initiative, now in its fourth year, was developed by Richland Two school counselors and social workers to strengthen the connection between families and community resources.

“One of the leading igniters behind this program are the daily constraints that often prohibit our families from taking advantage of resources that they may need to maintain or enhance their quality of life, “said Councilwoman Dixon.

Richland County Government along with Richland School District Two, City of Columbia and several social service agencies were available during the event to provide information, assistance and resources that will continue to strengthen the family unit. Richland School District Two Director of Guidance Counselors, Mrs. Dr. O’Tasha Morgan, shared this vision of bringing service providers and families together over a meal in an effort to build sustainable relationships.

“R2 Connections brings together our schools, elected officials, local businesses and community members for the purpose of promoting learning, character, community and joy — the four squares at the heart of Richland Two,” said Dr. Debbie Hamm, Richland School District Two Superintendent. “Richland County Councilwoman Julie Ann Dixon, the City of Columbia, and Richland Two school counselors and social workers helped make this event possible. Parents and students who took part in R2 Connections benefit from learning about community resources that strengthen the health and wellness of our families, which provide a strong foundation for academic success. We are extremely grateful for their support.”

All interested participants and Richland County residents will be able to continue their Parental Connection if they would like to participate in the first pilot parental workshop that will begin Thursday, March 5 from 6-8 p.m. at Brookland Baptist Northeast.  This is a five week program for our parents to receive holistic training that will enhance their parental knowledge, skills, and techniques.
