November 18, 2014

LEXINGTON, SC –  The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) named Lexington Technology Center Agriscience Teacher Robert Bollier the 2014 ACTE Region II Carl Perkins Community Service Award winner. Bollier is one of four finalists for the 2015 national title.

New to Lexington One, Bollier’s selection as the Region II winner is based on his work as an Agriscience teacher and FFA advisor at Cheraw High School in Cheraw, South Carolina. Bollier helped his students engage with and serve in the community through various projects.

Bollier helped the school’s FFA chapter start a student-run produce stand to meet a demand for affordable fresh produce. He also used a $1,000 grant to create a school-wide recycling program. His students partnered with the National Technical Honor Society to work at Chamber of Commerce and Relay For Life banquets.

The Carl Perkins Community Service Award is presented to ACTE members who have used Career and Technical Education to make a significant impact on a community/humanitarian cause through leadership in programs and activities that promote community involvement. This award was named in honor of the late Congressman Perkins of Kentucky.

The national winner will be announced at the ACTE Awards Banquet during ACTE’s CareerTech VISION 2014 conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
