New Business Lands at County Airport

COLUMBIA, SC – The Richland County Airport Commission and Richland County Council have welcomed Aircraft Maintenance Services (AMS) to the Jim Hamilton – LB Owens Airport (CUB).

“It means more jobs in the community, more revenue flowing into Richland County from our airport and more robust aviation activity,” said Richland County Councilman Greg Pearce, who serves as the liaison between County Council and the Airport Commission.

AMS is an established and highly successful aircraft maintenance and repair company owned and operated by Frank and Vickie Schumpert.

Previously based exclusively at Camden’s Woodward Field (CDN), the Schumperts have expanded their operation and moved their core business and headquarters to the Jim Hamilton – LB Owens Airport. Part of their business will remain at the Camden airport, as well. AMS is a premier aircraft maintenance company and authorized FAA repair station which provides service to both piston and jet aircraft as well as a unique niche of occasional work on vintage military “war birds.”

“This move is a great enhancement to our airport” said Richland County Airport Commission Chairman Don Purcell, himself a pilot.

Frank Schumpert said the move to Jim Hamilton – LB Owens Airport, also known by its three-character airport designation of CUB, fulfills one of his dreams.

“It’s long been a goal of mine to return to CUB where I worked as a mechanic many years ago,” he said. “I’m very pleased to be here and look forward to expanding our business lines to meet the demands of our many based and transient aircraft customers.”
