Dixon Hughes Goodman Donates More Than 400,000 Pounds of Food During Third Annual Count the Cans Campaign

July 11, 2014

CHARLESTON, SC – Dixon Hughes Goodman LLP, the largest CPA firm headquartered in the Southern U.S., recently donated 431,475 pounds of food to the communities in which it serves in 12 states across the firm’s footprint.

This amount includes 26,947 cans of fruit gathered on “Fruity Friday” and 68,943 wellness items gathered on “Wellness Wednesday,” two new focus areas created for this year’s campaign which carried the theme “One Can Make a Difference” and received participation from a majority of the firm’s 1,800+ employees.

“People are the heart of our core values and we strive to embody our values in the work we do to enrich the lives of others,” said Matt Snow, Chief Executive Officer for Dixon Hughes Goodman. “Because food banks have an increased need for donations during the summer months when children are out of school, we have a tremendous opportunity to make a meaningful impact on our communities during this season of great need.”

As part of the Dixon Hughes Goodman’s GIVES (Go. Invest. Volunteer. Engage. Serve.) initiative, the firm’s 30 offices band together to support a collective cause that will impact the communities in which they are located. The third annual “Count the Cans” food drive, which was held June 20 – June 27, focused on collecting monetary and non-perishable food donations in an effort to alleviate the suffering of people who struggle with food insecurity. The summer season is an optimal time for the food drive to have a specific impact on children who receive meals at school during the academic year but may struggle to find enough to eat during summer break.

With the focus on donating healthy items, including whole grains, low-fat, low-sugar, and low-sodium food, the Dixon Hughes Goodman Charleston and Summerville offices donated more than 33,000 meals through cans, non-perishable food and cash donations to the Lowcountry Food Bank.

Since the annual food drive began in 2012, Dixon Hughes Goodman has collected and donated 2,931,475 pounds of food for local communities within the Southern U.S.
