FOMO Season is in High Gear- What Are You Going to Wear?

It probably comes as no surprise that I love an acronym, but in all honestly I had to look up FOMO when I read about it earlier this week.

FOMO stands for ‘Fear Of Missing Out’ and is used for all of the events: formal; impromptu; organized or otherwise, which you don’t want to miss this summer.  Let’s face it summer is all about being social and documenting the fun on Instagram.

These two boards feature two trends that will have you standing out in the next #selfie moment:

1. Printed pants.  A staple in women’s fashion for years, it has now become a unisex trend. There are, however, differences in pulling it off.

Ladies have a lot more leeway and options here and can easily take the same pair of pants from lounge to dressy simply with accessories.  Printed pants can also be found in a style that is sure to work for your shape and aesthetic.

With the trend just starting to move into the men’s market we have fewer options and ways of pulling them off.  Fit is the first difference.  It should be pointed out that most printed pants are only found in slim or tailored cuts, to avoid looking like pajama bottoms.  Aside from that, you will find these pants in all types of prints and colors.  Banana Republic has a great blue-on-blue pair that is subtle for a printed pant, or you can go with these from AMI that are quite bold.

The easiest and safest way to style printed pants is with a solid, neutral top, like the ones here, but if you are adventurous play around with colors, stripes, dots and even another graphic print.  You will be surprised at the versatility of these pants.

2. Seeing Red.  Yesterday we talked about blue breaking out this season, but red isn’t far behind.  Seen more heavily in menswear collections, red was a key color in a multitude of shades.  From primary red and metallic cherry to berry, corals and pinks there is a shade that works perfectly for your skin tone.  The key is to finding it is the temperature.  Warm reds are yellow-based and tend to look better on people with a tan, where cool reds are blue-based and look better on pale people.

Ladies if you want to apply this rule to lipsticks there is another factor to consider, and that is the intensity of the shade.  The brighter and more vibrant the color the more attention it will draw, so keep the color richer and darker if you want a more subdued red lip.

3. Free the toes.  Whether you choose peep-toe booties or strappy sandals showing some toe is quintessential summer, and a lot less controversial than freeing other body parts.  The only requirement here is that your feet be in presentable condition.  If you’re a bit anxious about that treat yourself to a relaxing pedicure.

Guys don’t worry.  Greenville’s Frank’s Gentleman Salon will be opening a Columbia location soon and promises professional salon services in a masculine environment.

Try these two awesome trends this weekend and be sure to tag me in your next FOMO moment!  You can find me @BrianMaynor.
