May 19, 2014

CHAPIN, SC – August 30, 2014 –

Plans are already being made for this year’s 35th annual Chapin Labor Day Festival and Parade, which will be held August 30 through September 1, 2014.  The theme is Hooked on Chapin, a nod to our proximity to Lake Murray and the upcoming Forrest Wood Cup fishing tournament that is coming to the area in August.

The weekend is Chapin’s premier public event, with a number of family-friendly activities that promote community pride and also highlight what a great place Chapin is to live, work and play. More than 30,000 people come out during the course of the weekend to participate in the various activities which include:

Saturday, August 30        The Crooked Creek 5k Race to benefit the park’s Meals on Wheels Program

Sunday, August 31           Fishers of Men Outdoor Concert featuring praise bands from Chapin United Methodist, Chapin Baptist and the Kingdom Builders Tabernacle of Praise at Crooked Creek Park

Monday, September 1 Chapin Labor Day Parade, which begins at 9:30 am, and goes through the historic downtown area.  In addition to the annual parade, there is a street fair with vendors and concessions, a children’s carnival, a classic car show, book sale, arts and crafts, and the Chapin Champions Annual Talent Contest.

“We are excited to start work on this year’s event, which draws Midlands’ residents and visitors from all over to be part of this fun, community celebration,” said Chapin Mayor Skip Wilson. “We are glad to be working with the Lake Murray Country Tourism Board to cross-promote these events which will bring a big economic impact to our area. Hopefully, we’ll be able to Hook even more people on Chapin as a result!”
