You and I both know magnetic people.
They are like bright stars in a dark galaxy.
They exude a powerful, contagious energy.
This attracts others to them like moths to the flame.
Everyone they meet seems to follow their lead.
These are the people who show their courage.
They dare . . . and they care.
They dare to do what others fear to do.
They care about others, not just themselves.
They’re successful for one reason.
They will do what others only talk about.
They are role models of tact and generosity.
They show common sense.
They make sound decisions.
They learn from poor decisions.
Here are four secrets of lighting up a room.
• Show an avid interest in others.
You can’t fake this. You must be interested.
It’s not about you. It’s about them.
The late Zig Ziglar did this effectively.
He greeted you at the door to his seminars.
He asked who you are and what you do.
He asked why you came to his seminar today.
He was winning his audience from the get-go.
Care more about those you come in contact with.
Include your colleagues at work and your clients.
• Make yourself an effective listener.
Ask questions to understand everyone you meet.
Seek common interests that you may share.
This could be hobbies or sports teams you follow.
Find common interests the two of you share.
This sets the stage for a deeper relationship.
• Understand the other person’s hopes and dreams.
Look for ways that you to add value to everyone.
Help them achieve their hopes and dreams.
• Seize opportunities to help those around you.
Become enthusiastic about helping them.
Focus your attention on each one you talk with.
Make them feel important, special and valued.
All this will help you light up your own rooms.
