Help a SC Veteran In Need Stay Cool This Summer

July 23, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – July 23, 2013 – The South Carolina Association of Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors’ new Cool Aid, Warms Hearts program is teaming up with the South Carolina Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council to help veterans in need beat the heat this summer and to help them save money.

Nominate a veteran now for the chance to have a licensed HVAC professional install a new heating and air conditioning system. In addition, experts with The SC Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council will ensure the veteran’s home is energy efficient through its Homes for Heroes program.

This isn’t just a one time gift. Having a licensed HVAC professional install a heating and air conditioning system, combined with improving energy efficiency can substantially cut monthly electric bills.

“In one case, a veteran was having to choose between paying to keep his house cool, or paying for his medicine. Nobody should have to make that choice, especially someone who was willing to sacrifice his life for our country,” Melissa Le Roy, USGBC SC Executive Director said.

“We’re proud to able to give back to these Americans who’ve given up so much for us. Our goal is to try and do this for veterans in need state wide,” Leigh Faircloth with the SC Association of Heating and Air Conditioning Contractors said.

To nominate a veteran, simply e-mail us at [email protected], tell us about the veteran you’d like to nominate and we’ll send you an application. To qualify, nominees and their families need to meet income requirements outlined in the application. The numbers are in line with the 2009 poverty statistics.

Applications must be received by 5pm Tuesday August 13th.
