Watson Tate Savory wins five design excellence awards from the American Institute of Architects.
May 7, 2013COLUMBIA, SC – May 7, 2013 – Watson Tate Savory, with offices in Columbia and Charlotte, was honored with five awards in three categories at the AIA South Carolina Design Awards Gala in Charleston last Saturday evening. Jury chair Ruth Todd, FAIA, with Page & Turnbull in San Francisco, presented the firm with three awards for Preservation and Adaptive Reuse. Jury co-chairs Joseph Tanney, AIA, and Robert Luntz, AIA, with Resolution: 4 Architecture in New York, presented the firm with a Robert Mills Residential award, and Raleigh-based Frank Harmon, FAIA, presented WTS with a Brick Design award. Attention to detail, design clarity, respect for existing conditions and judicious use of materials were cited as common characteristics of each of these projects.
The following awards were presented:
1. South Carolina State University, Lowman Hall, AIA Historic Preservation Honor Award
2. Santee Wateree RTA, James E. Clyburn Intermodal Transportation Center, AIA Honor Award for Adaptive Reuse/Renovation
3. Watson Tate Savory Columbia Office, AIA Merit Award for Adaptive Reuse/Renovation
4. Tate Mountain House, AIA Robert Mills Residential Design Citation Award
5. University of South Carolina, Horizon I Building, Brick Industry Association Southeast Region Honor Award
