The Four Seasons, Two Ways: Tango meets Traditional with the SC Phil at Harbison Theatre on Saturday, April 6, 2013
March 20, 2013COLUMBIA, SC – March 20, 2013 – Vivaldi gets the tango treatment at Harbison Theatre on April 6, 2013, when Morihiko Nakahara brings his trademark charisma – and a hand-selected group of over 30 musicians from the SC Philharmonic – to perform two wildly different works bearing the Four Seasons moniker. Vivaldi’s eternal classic, The Four Seasons, as well as The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla and Leonid Desyatnikov, will be given the big sound, small space treatment for which Harbison Theatre has become known since opening in 2010.
A celebrity conductor who travels nationally throughout the year, Nakahara brings fun-loving verve to his position as Music Director at the SC Phil.
The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires is the tribute of two 20th-century men — the Argentinean Astor Piazzolla and the Russian Leonid Desyatnikov — to an 18th-century Venetian master, Antonio Vivaldi. The performance will be the Philharmonic’s second this season at Harbison Theatre.
“In December, we hosted the Philharmonic’s Holiday Pops program – something upbeat and familiar that they wouldn’t normally perform in their own season,” said Katie Fox, Director of Theatre Operations. “Now we are bringing the SC Phil back for something a bit more traditional with a modern twist in our intimate space.
Downtown orchestra regulars will enjoy being up close and personal with the orchestra in the 400-seat venue at Harbison Theatre. The booking comes at the tail end of an inaugural season that presented nationally acclaimed acts like Pilobolus and Squonk Opera on the Harbison Theatre stage.
Tickets for SC Philharmonic “The Four Seasons” are $22 and can be purchased at http://www.harbisontheatre.org.
