Jr. Olympic Developmental Running Program Starting in Northeast Columbia

August 4, 2012

COLUMBIA, SC – August 4, 2012 Dave Hale, PhD, Founder & Director of Sports Performance and Research at Velocity Distance Project (VDP) located in the Lake Carolina Development, Columbia, SC, recenty announced that VDP is launching a USA Track & Field (USATF) Jr. Olympic Developmental Running Program for area youth ages 10-18.

Our mission at VDP includes assisting the area youth in developing their running potential. Part of that development, is providing cutting-edge training at the highest level, while making it affordable for anyone, said Hale. While training numerous runners in the Columbia area and throughout the United States, and seeing the rapid performance and conditioning improvements they have made in a short time, I am confident that the new USATF Jr. Olympic Developmental Running Program will cultivate a progressive stream of champion youth runners throughout the area.

Velocity Distance Project, not only provides runners of all ages with the highest level of professional coaching, but they also provide computer and video analysis and testing services for athletes, while specializing in endurance sports. VDP also is the only running shop in Northeast Columbia. Hale was recently hired as the Head Cross Country Coach at Cardinal Newman High School in Columbia after being selected as one of the top 50 endurance running coaches in the United States by the USA Track & Field Association  to participate in an elite endurance coaching program at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Hale’s participation in the Jr. Olympic developmental program will no doubt position any 10 to 18 year old runner to not only increase their running performance, but also provide them with the elite-level coaching needed to participate at the Jr. Olympic national championships.

This year-long program will provide participants with professionally coached training and conditioning, along with educating them on proper running form, breathing, sports nutrition, and racing stategies, Hale mentioned. Not only will we at Velocity Distance Project be developing this program, but we will also be hosting several USATF Jr. Olympic cross country races in Lake Carolina to further increase the running opportunities for kid’s.
