THE CLIFFS’ INTERNATIONAL VACATION PROPERTIES TO BE FEATURED ON SC-ETV NATURE PROGRAM “EXPEDITIONS WITH PATRICK MCMILLAN”
May 4, 2009TRAVELERS REST, SC – May 4, 2009 – Throughout May and into early June, Clemson University/ETV’s award-winning nature program “Expeditions with Patrick McMillan” will feature the wildlife and conservation efforts at The Cliffs Retreat Collection of international vacation properties. These four exciting episodes – filmed in the fall of 2008 at The Cliffs at Hakai Beach and The Cliffs at Kispiox River in British Columbia, Canada, and The Cliffs Preserve in Patagonia, Chile – will give an informative introduction to the rare beauty and rich diversity found on these frontier lands. After premiering in May on SC-ETV, these episodes of “Expeditions” will go on to air on UNC-TV and, ultimately, PBS stations across America and internationally.
“Being involved in this project has been incredible,” said Rick Fisher, Foundation Director for The Cliffs Communities, Inc. “The opportunity for us to work with someone as knowledgeable and well-respected as Patrick McMillan to bring greater awareness of the conservation projects underway to preserve the rainforests on and around The Cliffs’ international properties is a privilege. We are extremely excited for these episodes to air first on SC-ETV and later this year on PBS stations across America. We are getting calls from Patrick nearly every day with more international markets interested in picking up the broadcast,” Fisher added.
A respected naturalist, biologist and educator at Clemson University, Patrick McMillan hosts the “Expeditions” program and conducts research across the globe in the fields of natural community ecology and conservation biology. The “Expeditions” series is committed to increasing the awareness of environmental issues, promoting the understanding of biological diversity, ecology, and biology, explaining the importance of achieving a balance between nature and mankind to create a sustainable environment, and illustrating the diversity of the natural and cultural resources in South Carolina and the resulting global interconnections.
“The opportunity to work in and around The Cliffs’ international properties has been the thrill of a lifetime! The temperate rainforests and marine resources found in and around these properties are among the world’s greatest treasures, and they have a fantastic story to tell. Their story revolves around the intricate connections that all life shares and how interconnected every inch of this globe really is. The Cliffs Retreat Collection of properties are outstanding examples of development that takes this interconnection to heart, allowing visitors a rare glimpse into the wild without greatly impacting the delicate natural environment. These are places so special that they have greatly inspired me and transformed the way I look at our place in the world. It has been a pleasure to spend time at The Cliffs and to make such wonderful new friends,” Patrick McMillan said.
The Cliffs Retreat Collection of international vacation properties offers truly original experiences that include world-class fishing, heli-skiing, rainforest hikes, conservation camps for children and luxurious accommodations and cuisine. The four properties are located in Patagonia, Chile, British Columbia, Canada; and The Abacos, Bahamas. At each destination, guests can enjoy The Cliffs’ signature hospitality and benefit from its commitment to wellness, service and respect for nature. The Cliffs Retreat Collection encourages guests of all ages to turn these destinations into their own private paradise. Each property invites guests on a journey of discovery to indulge in new experiences and voyage beyond the expectations of a typical vacation.
