Sisters of Charity Foundation Awards $15,000 to Harvest Hope Food Bank

COLUMBIA, SC – February 24, 2009 – The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina has awarded $15,000 to Harvest Hope Food Bank, a nonprofit organization serving the needs of hungry people by gathering and sharing food in 20 South Carolina counties.
As a direct result of the current economy, Harvest Hope is expecting to serve more than 1.5 million people in 2009, up 70% from 2007. The food pantry has already experienced unprecedented demand in the last six months of 2008. This emergency funding will assist the organization in feeding the hungry.
“In light of difficult times, the Foundation is doing its part to make whatever impact it can to help the underserved in our community,” said Tom Keith, president of the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. “We hope this funding can help keep the thousands of people Harvest Hope serves from going hungry.”
