City of Cayce Awards Employee of the Year

CAYCE, SC – January 28, 2009 -An employee of the City of Cayce for 20 years, Thomas White, has won the city’s competitive Employee of the Year Award. White currently serves as the Supervisor of the Sanitation Department — one of the largest departments in the city.

White was honored by a standing ovation of over 100 of his coworkers at the Annual Employee Awards Breakfast this morning at the Cayce Masonic Lodge.

“We’re proud to honor someone with such a longstanding commitment to the City of Cayce,” said Mayor Elise Partin. “Everyone says that Thomas never complains and has a great attitude.

“We just really applaud Thomas’ work ethic and dedication,” she added.

White was clearly thrilled to win the award.

“I thank each and every one of my coworkers,” he said. “We all work together as a team. You helped me win this!” he said.

In addition to supervisor duties, White operates the limb grappler by himself, picking up the piles of yard debris that cannot otherwise be removed. The growth of Cayce has doubled his workload over the years, yet White has stepped up to the demands of the job.

“Thomas is the ideal employee and we’re lucky to have him on our staff,” said City Manager Johnny Sharpe.

He remains a recipient of the Safe Driver’s Coupon and Perfect Attendance Award every year, meaning he has never had an accident and has never missed a day of work.

For demonstrating an exceptional and consistent commitment of professional service to Cayce, the City Manager awarded White’s Sanitation Department the Sunrise Award in 1996. He has also won the Whole Sole Award twice.

Cayce residents and co-workers alike compliment Thomas White on his great attitude and inspirational spirit.
