September 30, 2008COLUMBIA, SC – September 30, 2008 – Congaree State Bank is teaming up once again with Carolina Records to offer Free Shred Day to the public. The event will be held at Congaree State Bank’sWest Columbia location at 2023 Sunset Boulevard on Thursday, October 16.
Free shredding of all personal documents will be offered from 8am to 5pm. “We just happen to be celebrating our second anniversary and a shredding event is a great way for us to help the community,”says Hank Ray, President/CEO of Congaree State Bank.“I encourage the public to take the proper steps to protect themselves from identity theft.”
“To an identity thief, one person’s trash can literally become another person’s stolen treasure,”says Trey Hoey of Carolina Records.“If you are putting your personal information in the trash, unfortunately, there’s a good chance that somebody’s going to get that information and use it for purposes that you never intended.”
It is estimated that every year over 8 million Americans fall victim to identity theft, losing over $40 billion dollars. Now there is an opportunity to protect yourself from identity theft for free. Items that you should bring to be shredded are:
• Bank Statements
• Checks and Payroll Stubs
• Tax Returns
• Insurance Forms
• Credit Card Statements and Pre-approved Credit Card Letters
• Doctor’s Forms
