Annual Run/Walk to Benefit Central SC Habitat for Humanity
September 27, 2008COLUMBIA, SC – September 26, 2008 – The West Metro Habitat Alliance will hold the sixth annual Habitat for Humanity Run/Walk on Saturday, October 18. The 10K run and 5K walk will start at 8:00 a.m. at Providence Presbyterian Church, just off Highway 378 in West Columbia. Proceeds from the event will be used to fund construction of Habitat for Humanity homes in the Cayce/West Columbia area.
The alliance is an expansion of Providence Presbyterian Church’s Habitat for Humanity mission efforts, whose congregation founded the Run/Walk in 2003. “The Habitat for Humanity Run/Walk continues to be a great community builder for our local Habitat efforts,” said Roy Kramer, executive director of Central SC Habitat for Humanity. “It was the first event of its kind in the Midlands, and it has spawned other similar events which have benefited our organization greatly.”
The Habitat for Humanity Run/Walk is part of the Columbia Running Club’s “Tour de Columbia,” a series of races to promote running for fun and to assist the community by raising money for local nonprofits.
The race will be run on a USAT&F certified course in residential neighborhoods behind the church and leading out onto Hwy 378. It will culminate with a community pancake breakfast and awards ceremony at 9:30 a.m.
